Here is a link to a story about one of the things we are trying to get rid of

Legislative Report: 10/1/07

I finally got a meeting with Congressman Arcuri's office in the Utica district office on Sept. 12th. The meeting was with the main staff person for the district as the Congressman was already back in Washington, but this is a start. I tried to get people from the Oneida and Tompkins chapters to go with me, but could not rouse anyone who had the ability to miss part of a day of work, so Rocky Gonzalez went with me which worked out ok as he is the VP of the Leathernecks mc which is made up of bikers who were/are marines, and represented a coalition as we laid out our agenda.

The big item on our plate right now is HR 1076 which will close the loop-holes in the current HIPAA legislation which allows employer provided health insurance to refuse coverage to motorcyclists and other legal activities they think to risky. Motorcycles were specifically mentioned as one activity they would not cover. We asked the congressman to co-sponsor the bill and to become a member of the motorcycle safety caucus in the House.

The amount of mail we send to him from this and other chapters in his district will probably determine if he signs on or not, its up to us. I am including a sample letter for members to copy in their own words, (keep it simple and address him as "The Honorable Michael Arcuri") a hand written letter is great, E-mail is not. PLEASE WRITE THE LETTER.

Thanks

Brent
